Standards for Career Readiness

A student who is career ready will understand how education increasingly determines income and opportunity in the global knowledge economy, and will know which types of jobs in the future will need skilled workers, will pay enough to support a family and might be a good match for his or her interests and abilities.

The Ramp-Up to Readiness Standards for career readiness will ensure that key steps toward this goal are met in each year of the Ramp-Up program.

Level 1: Understand

The student understands that high-skilled careers are the best path to a financially secure future and knows which careers might be a match for his or her goals, interests and skills.

Level 2: Believe

The student believes that he or she will enter and succeed in a high-skill career that matches his or her interests and skills.

Lessons that support this standard

Level 3: Plan

The student creates a career plan that includes informed decisions on possible careers, the best postsecondary options for those careers, and steps to reach his/her postsecondary aspirations.

Lessons that support this standard

Level 4: Achieve

1. The student identifies at least three high-skill careers of interest. 2. The student identifies the requirements for entering and succeeding in his or her careers of interest. 3. The student interacts with professionals and/or has a work-based experience in one or more of his or her career fields of interest.
